An ethnic Burman villager was killed during interrogation by Burmese government soldiers and a catholic priest detained

About 200 Burmese Army soldiers reportedly entered Namsan-yang and occupied religious buildings that belong to Baptist Church, Catholic Church and Buddhist Monastery on Oct 16, 2011.

Heavy artillery fire over Namsan-yang village by Aungja yang-based Bumese Army wounded U Chan Nyein, an ethnic Burman on Oct 15, 2011. Namsan-yang village has been hit more than 20 times by heavy artillery shells, said local sources. Another Namsan-yang villager U Htay Maung, an ethnic Burman was killed during interrogation by Burmese government soldiers on Oct 16, 2011. Sara Doi Awng, a catholic priest, was also detained by Burmese government soldiers.

Namsan-yang village burnt down by Burmese Army

Local residents who went out at night in Waingmaw and Myitkyina were seized by the Burmese Army to porter military equipment and supplies in war zones. Myitkyina Residents say they are afraid to go out after 6 pm as there are reports of Burmese Army recruiting porters on Oct 14. Burmese government officials reportedly asked ward officers to recruit porters for them. Burmese Army has launched an operation to abduct local residents in Muse, Northern Shan State to be used as porters, said a local resident.

In another report, Shwe Nyaung Pyin villagers, who were working in their fields, were abducted by Burmese Army soldiers to be used as mine sweepers. Mr. Zinghang Htung of Du mare block in Myitkyina and his friends were seized by Burmese government soldiers while they were working in a field in Shwe Nyaung Pyin on Oct 13, 2011 and sent to front line to be used as mine sweepers and human shields. Mr. Zinghang Htung was wounded in a land mine explosion and sent to Myitkyina hospital, a local source said.
